Week One at Chatham

Greetings from Chatham!

This week has flown by!  It has been great to see both returning and brand new campers have such an amazing week.

Today we had some exciting break times.  This morning we played a kickball tournament for ivy points and to continue working on team building skills.

During the afternoon break time we were able to enjoy the gorgeous weather to buy lemonade from out Lemonade Stand class.  All of the students were able to discuss the future businesses that they want to start and how this class has helped them.

In order to see some more pictures of all the great things our campers have done this week, please visit our flickr account here.  Happy camping!

Princeton Week 1: Campers are Invested in their Brains!

"Investment Literacy and Stock Market Game" and "Brain Training" are off to a great start here at the Chapin School in Princeton. Our afternoon sessions may only have a handful of campers this week but they sure do bring a lot of enthusiasm and fun!

Investment Literacy started off with a general overview of the economy, the different phases and cycles, as well as key vocabulary. By Wednesday these campers are researching potential stocks and preparing for their investments when the Market opens tomorrow!

Brain training has been working hard to learn valuable study skills and engaging their minds in different academic games. They have been working hard to memorize the Presidents in order and will present this by the end of the week to the other campers!

WEDNESDAY IS WATER DAY!!! Of course this was a huge success and a great way to keep cool on this HOT HOT HOT June afternoon! The campers had an opportunity to dunk our counselor Ivan, as well as each other, in the dunk tank. We also had a water balloon toss which quickly turned into an all out water war!

Check out of Youtube page for videos and our Flickr Page for additional photos, select Princeton 2016 Week 1 folder! Stay tuned for more excitement!

Week 1 Fun in Oakland!

We're off to a great start in Oakland this week. This week features some incredible classes and some even better memories. From exciting endeavors in entrepreneurship to some spine-tingling surgical sessions, each class this week will certainly be a highlight of the summer.

Anatomy and Surgical Techniques students have been enthusiastically learning the parts of the body and performing operations on virtual patients, and real-life sheep brains.
Students learn about the microscope and even observe their own cheek cells!
Enthusiastic students observe a finished anatomical chart.

Introduction to Java Programming students are learning the ins and outs of computer science by utilizing code. They've started to use code sequences to develop their own games utilizing if statements, arrays, methods, and plenty of other computer terms that I can only pretend to understand.
Despite his best effort in teaching me, I still don't know anything about Java.
Students eagerly await their new instructions from their teacher. Only his arm is pictured
The Engineering of Ice Cream has led to a very delicious week. The students get to create delectable desserts and learn while doing it. As a result, the camp becomes more like a confectionery, or at least it smells like one.

That gumdrop bridge looks good enough to eat!
One eager student came in, in costume!

Shark Tank Jr. swam into camp this week too. Kids are learning about what it takes to create, scale, and advertise a successful business. They've designed their own logos, had some great brainstorm sessions, and are well on their way to becoming successful business owners. In a few years, these valuable businesses might be publicly traded at the stock exchange. To think that a multi-million dollar business started here.

These future venture capitalists are working hard on their creations.
"I worked harder and smarter than most people in the businesses I have been in."- Mark Cuban

The best part about this week, is that it isn't even over yet! We'll report back on Friday with even more fun activities going on at good ol' Oakland this week.

Water Day @ Far Hills

This morning at International Ivy Far Hills we enjoyed our very first Wet Day.  We started with a water balloon toss.  Campers each had a partner and had to pass the water balloon back and forth.  Needless to say, plenty of legs and hands got wet. Below are 2 pictures out of the many we took today. After a few rounds, we gave campers the option to either go to the Dunk Tank or play with our water guns.  No one was left dry at either station, and everyone left smiling.  Want to see more pictures and videos?  Check out our flickr page here. Check out youtube here.

Happy Camping,

Summer '16 ... Let's Go! - Livingston Week 1

Not only is Livingston a new location this summer at International Ivy, but it is home to energetic, thoughtful and creative new kids! We are excited to begin our first summer and look forward to all the new classes, activities, students and especially Wet Days.

This week at Livingston, we have Competition Training for the Math Athlete where the students learn 12 problem-solving strategies by participating in math contests and playing Math Jeopardy.
Take a look:

Fencing is another great class we had here at Livingston! This class allowed the students to learn the basic fencing skills, footwork, gestures and lingo. They will ultimately be able to have a proper fencing match with each other and show their other camp-mates and families at the Showcase on Friday. Check them out:

There is no shortage of creative from the Fashion class we have this week! Much to the students surprise, fashion design is full of intricate details. Sketching isn't as easy as they thought, which encourages students to collaborate and help each other out. Look at their progress below:

Our last class for week 1 is Magic! This magic class taught by Bill Wisch has consistantly been many students' favorite class to take. He manages to capture their attention and show them the trick behind the magic. Let's just say that his class is a blast! Here they are in action:

Before the week ends, we'll have programmed successfully functional robots, learned to work as a team, created feature films, and found new role models and friends.  Let the fun begin!

Far Hills- Independence Day, Even for the Young Ones

Today at Far Hills, our youngsters are learning what it means to be true Americans by taking a dive into our country's storied history. Before all the barbecues and fireworks that have become synonymous with this day, it is important that our newest generation of kids learn the true back story of the 4th of July.

Happy 4th of July from Far Hills!!!
