Oakland Week 6 (8 - p)

Hello, and welcome back to International Ivy Oakland.  We had a fantastic group of boys and girls this week to wrap up our summer.  We had lots of fun in our classes, which was Minecraft Math, Minecraft Advanced, Website Design, and finally Photoshop/Graphic Design.  Below are little summaries from each class.  Ofcourse, you can find our flickr account by clicking the link here.  This will show you all of our pictures from the week.  It has been a pleasure to have the privilege to work with and learn from your children.  We hope to see each one of them back next summer.  Oakland would not be the same without them.

Minecraft Math + Minecraft Advanced:
This week we offered Minecraft Math in the morning and Minecraft Advanced in the afternoon.  In the morning, children were given math problems based upon their age and abilities.  The better they did, the more in game rewards they got.  In Minecraft Advanced, students were loaded into a happy wonderland where they can build some pretty complex things.  Students worked together to complete objectives set by the teacher, and learned much about teamwork.  Below are pictures from the two classes.  Don't forget all the pictures can be seen on the link above.

Website Design + Graphic Design/Photoshop:
The creativity could not stop flowing this week in Room 4.  The work the kids made is absolutely incredible.  Looking at their artwork, you would never guess it was done by kids.  The websites are top quality, with riveting content.  

Chatham Week 6 Wrap-Up

Here is a summary of our STEAM oriented classes this week at Chatham.

SCIENCE - Our science classes this week were very unique.  In our Youngster class the students explored the living objects outdoors during their nature walks and our cooking classes learned the chemistry of the way that some foods change through the heating or cooling process.

TECHNOLOGY - The classes this week that were solely focused on technology were our Scratch, Java, 3D and 2D Video Game Creation classes.  They learned several types of coding languages as well as different ways to write programs.  Each student's unique game truly reflected their understanding and passion of the programming.

ENGINEERING - Our Civil Engineering class was able to build different structures in order to test out how much force a building or a bridge can withstand.  They were asked to complete challenges, build assigned buildings and come up with their own unique structures.

ARTS - The culinary arts class did a beautiful job of designing different desserts.  Learning how to express their artistic talents through cooking was a fun thing to do for the cutie cooks especially. Our Animation Film Making class also did some amazing work on their movie.  Their illustrations were very detailed and their filming talents were very impressive!  Our creative writing classes also used their minds to create lovely anthologies of their stories that were written all week.

MATHEMATICS - Our Java class learned a new understanding of numbers and number sense when coding their programs this week.

Far Hills Week 6: Youngster WeDo Robotics

This week we had the youngsters create all kinds of robots over at Far Hills. From what we hear, lions, alligators, and monkeys were built all from Legos. Pretty impressive if we do say so ourselves. Take a look at a few snapshots from the class.

Week 6 Fun at Scotch Plains

The summer might be coming to an end but we are enjoying every last minute of it here at Scotch Plains. Wet Day was a blast and campers wore their clothes backwards today for an Ivy point. Check out the pictures below to see all the fun we are having this week.

Dunk tank fun!

Our campers have been working on many projects this week in Graphic Design and Photoshop. Yesterday they learned to manipulate images and enhance pictures. The picture below may be a work in progress, but it looks pretty amazing if you ask us!

These campers are ready for careers in the advertising industry!

It's hard to believe that there is just one week left of camp!  This summer has been amazing and one to remember. Thanks for a great time, campers! Looking forward to one more awesome week.

There's Something for Everyone! Edison Week 6

This week is extremely busy at Edison! Not only is it our last week of half-days, we are running four amazing classes! Students this week are taking Animation Movie Making, Debate, Robotics Vehicles, or Competition Training for the Math Athlete. So, there is something for everyone! Kenny, the Site Director, is teaching Robotics Vehicles, so the students are happy about that! Check out some of the highlights from Week 6 so far. Remember, next week, week 7, we will be expanding to full-days, so we will have twice the fun!

"Setting" Us Up For Success

Somerset Week 6

Language Arts Boot Camp is well on it's way in Somerset. The students are practicing correct grammar and reading, Charlotte's Web.  Yesterday they took time to discuss the importance of setting in literature. Can you imagine Charlotte's Web  in New York City? It just wouldn't make sense! The students drew maps of the farm where the story takes place. They were full of detail and the discussion was one of the best.

Far Hills 2015 Week 6: Obstacle Course Break Time

How is it already week 6? This summer is flying by! But that doesn't mean we are skimping on any of the fun over at Far Hills. No, sir! Since our obstacle course was such a big hit last week, we decided to bring it back due to popular demand. The obstacles were a little bit different this week though. Have you ever seem a three-legged race combined with a wheelbarrow race combined with a crab walk race?! I don't think so. Check out the video to see how intense this break time was.
