Sparks Fly @ International Ivy Paramus!

Well, figurative sparks, anyway!  Campers this week are learning electrical and computer engineering as well as programming and business-savvy entrepreneurial skills.  Engineering and Programming with Arduino allows campers to create computer-programmable electrical circuits with an Arduino kit.  In Java II, students are using the Java language they began learning last week to create Minecraft Mods, customizing their favorite digital environment.  Students in SharkTank Entrepreneur are brainstorming their inventions for development later this week.  We are excited to see these campers ideas grow into cool creations!

Stupendously Somerset - Week 5!

Well folks, we have made it to Week 5 right here at Somerset! It appears that the time is just flying by. Our students this week are being exposed to all new classes, including Shark Tank, Film-Making, Competition Training for the Math Athlete, and Investment Literacy and the Stock Market Game! They are practicing their communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills each day. As always, the learning and the fun are flowing concurrently. Chatham Week 5

Learning About Baking

This week at Chatham, one of the many classes we have is Culinary Arts: Cakes and Cookies. The campers were so excited to get started! Colleen started by discussing how all the ingredients work in baking and why they are so important. She even had some finished products that she brought in. The campers then talked about different techniques to decorate the cupcakes. For the hands on activity, they each decorated cupcakes and got to try a little taste. We can't wait to see what sugary treats come the rest of the week!

Break Time Fun at Short Hills

WeLove WeDo Robotics at Chatham!

This week at Chatham, WeDo Robotics has been a great time! Campers are getting the chance to explore their creativity and develop problem solving skills by constructing different machines and robots.

Our tiny class has created some awesome projects -- on Wednesday, they constructed Ferris wheels! These are some of their favorite projects:

Princeton Sharing Showcase (Week 4)

Well another week has come to an end and our campers here at Princeton were thrilled to share their crafts and creations with one another and their parents!

First up, Graphic Design and GIMP edited imagery of celebrities into Vampires and Zombies, then they created a Pixel Portrait!

Next, our talented ladies in Fashion and the Sewing Machine created their very own pajama bottoms, pillow case dresses, and a tote bag to carry it all home in! Below is Chloe modeling her garments

                    

Finally, all week in Robotics Level 1 Animals these ladies were creating more indepth and difficult robots, starting with an inch worm, then a spider, dolphin, a moving rattle snake, and finally an interactive puppy! Check out our YouTube page for videos of each robot!

Oakland's Week 4 Big Ol' Blowout Hootenanny Bash

The end of each week presents an opportunity to reflect on the skills learned and the strides made in each camper's respective class. This week proves no different, as our enthusiastic learners have stepped up their game for the end of the week and worked hard to finish their writing, suture bananas, and create the most chaos on the Minecraft servers.

Minecraft Creative: The Engineer in You finished off this week by creating their own worlds and building their own biomes to inhabit and build on. The classroom was always alive with the excited shrieks of the campers and enthusiasm to build and create whatever they can imagine.

The book is called "The Guide to Minecraft."

Minecraft Advanced had campers working in teams and building circuits of redstone, designing a theme park, and teaming up to create their own unique worlds. They even do team-building activities were cooperation is king.

Fan Fiction and the Writing Process focused on inserting new stories into pre-existing worlds to increase their critical thinking skills. Campers focused on learning to revise and edit their creations, as long as increasing their typing skills. Some of our finished products include, Pitbull being sucked into Pokemon Go, and a very scary (and ingeniously written) Halloween Night.

Inspiration comes from the wildest places.

Acting for the Stage perfected their scene from The Taming of the Shrew and performed it for the whole camp. Once they were done, they got a big bravo from their fellow campers. It looks like those long days of practicing and playing charades paid off.

The word was Golden Gate Bridge. But hey, he's learning.

Rehearsal, always important. 

Anatomy and Surgical Techniques operated on some sheep's brains, sutured some bananas, and learned a lot about the composition of the human body. These exercises have made them surgeons of tomorrow, and if that's the case, our future is in capable hands.

Week 4 may only last 55 more minutes, but the memories and knowledge will last a lifetime. Here's to Week 5, as the summer starts to wind down.

Closing out Somerset Week 4!

We cannot believe that another week has gone by so fast! This week, we had Graphic Design, Website Design and Java Programming 2: Minecraft Mods! All of our students had a great week filled with learning. They had some great teachers helping them along the way. Today, students got to see what was going on in all of the classes. They had a great time checking out the final products!
