Youtube Channel Link

Here is the link to our International Ivy Youtube Channel.  We have all of our videos up from the past two weeks, and currently we are working on adding the videos that we are taking as week 3 progresses.  Here is the link to our videos!  Please be sure to watch all of them, especially so you can see what the other students have done in classes you may be interested in!  Please keep checking back for new videos!

Today we tried to build an arch but it kept on falling down.  But at least we tried and didn't give up.  We also made 3D figures.  Today we did a lot of building with blocks, sticks and balls!  I had fun today!

Weird and Amazing Science

In science camp we just made a cool arch with only using blocks.  It keeps collapsing but it was fun building and rebuilding it.  He gave us this sheet of paper how to build it, but then we had to pick it up.  The whole camp is fun, and I recommend trying it.

I'm having a really fun time in class.  My favorite part is using the shapes to make pictures and designs.

Break (Written 7/16/12)

My favorite part of the day is the 2 breaks we get.  We get to go outside and get fresh air.  THen we have fruit, pretzeks, and granola bars.  YUM!  Then we play fun name games with tennis balls.  Well that's what we did on day 1.  I can't wait for dodgeball tomorrow!!

Today's activity: Dodgeball

The teams had a great time playing!

Brain Training

I am playing tangrams.  Tangrams help me solve problems with my brain.  I also took a albson test yesterday, and it said all of my skills are at adult level (18+).  That made me feel good about myself.  I like this camp.

Lego NTX Robotics A is the BEST class ever!  We get to build our own robots with a NXT Block that programs the robot.  Then we used programming software to make it move.  I can't wait to see what we are going to do today.  Maybe add the sensors.

I am in Brain training.  It may sound bad, but it is fun.  We get to do games and things that train the brain.  We do golf, attention arrows and so much more!

Writing is great.  Today I handed in my first essay and I am excited to write more.  I love my cool pen and notebook.  I can't wait to see what fun we have today.  I also think that I am already becoming a better writer.

Writing class is so much fun I wrote the most thing ever!

Our international students have arrived! They have come to the United States all the way from Shanghai, China. They are acclimating to their new environment quickly and picking up more and more English words every day. They have been visiting a lot of places of interest in New York City and New Jersey. Some of the places they have experienced are The Museum of Natural History, Hershey Park, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fashion Institute of Technology Museum, Soho, and Times Square.
In English class, we are working on speaking and listening. My students, learn vocabulary and expressions that they will use in real life situations! For example, after one of my students  learned about buying train tickets we took the train into New York City. Once there,  she was given the opportunity to buy tickets and ask for directions. By providing my students with the ability to practice what they learned they are able to recall the information they have learned in other situations and are able to practice what they have learned independently.
My other student,  on the other hand, is working together with other American students in classes including Robotics and Science. She is interacting with students on a daily basis and learning what is like to be a student in the United States. She also has been experiencing American culture by going to the movies, Funplex, and Camp Horizons with American children that are close to her age. As she interacts more and more her vocabulary has continued to grow and she is gaining more confidence in speaking English.

I can not wait to see how they grow and develop in their English learning throughout the weeks they are here!
