Birthdays, Wacky Hair and Hats!

Greetings from Chatham!  We loved our second Theme Thursday of the summer, which was wacky hair and hat day.

We also had our first birthday celebration of the summer for one of our Youngsters.  We are really working on building a sense of community within the camp and making friends between classes.

We have our sharing showcase tomorrow and we will have the opportunity to check out each others' classes.  Check back tomorrow for a link to some videos from our showcase!  Until then, click here to see our week two album from Chatham.

Cheers,

Oakland's Week 2 Independence Boogaloo

It may be a shorter week in Oakland, but rest assured, we're making the most of it. This week, campers have been trading stocks, designing video games, and cooking up some nifty treats. Oakland's been having a great week so far, and it's a real shame that the weeks end tomorrow.

Java Level 2: Minecraft Mods has taken Java knowledge and applied it to Minecraft. They are starting to make their own equipment based on their own designs. They've been building their own modifications to the worlds of the game, and are having a blast while doing it.

Stock Market and Investment is taking the NYSE by storm and making a shake up in the market. Kids are competing in the stock market game by expanding their portfolios and trading stocks.Companies purchased range from Telsa, to American Water Company.

"Was buying 400 shares of Amazon really worth it?"

Culinary Arts: Cakes and Cookies has been baking some outstanding treats this week. Who doesn't love cake? This practical class teaches students the complexities of the confectionery.

The campers had a baaaaaaalast decorating their cake pops like sheep.

Lemonade Stand Entrepreneur teaches the most profit maximizing ways to run a lemonade stand while doubling as a business training class concentrating on product development and advertising.

"What if we put the Lemonade, in a glass?"
3D Video Game Design students are hard at work developing their own video games and playing each others games. Parkour maps are commonplace among the student's designs, but the tricky jumps are rewarding once you've finished them.
The future game designers of America, hopefully this means no more jump scares.

Teachers and campers work together to beat a game that the creator deemed "impossible."

All of the Break Games this week have been fantastic, but ask any Oakland camper what their favorite one was and you'll hear the same answer. "Bouncy Velcro Wall."

He was having a lot of fun just "hanging out."

This has been a fantastic week in Oakland, and thankfully, we've got many more to come!

Talking about Thursday at Somerset!

Believe it or not, tomorrow is the LAST day of camp for week 2. Don't worry because the fun is NOT OVER yet! We are still running until Week 7, so the good times will keep rolling. Here at Somerset, we have been having a great time in our classes. Although we may be a small bunch, we are learning and making memories as the week goes on.

While walking through the classes, a student in our AdventureQuest Leadership Games told us, "I had so much fun. I cannot wait for tomorrow!" Later on, a Youngster WeDo Robotics student remarked, "I have fun in class." We are happy that are students are excited to be at International Ivy!

Wet Day was a blast for us! And today, our students participated in Crazy Hair/Hat Day! Here are a few candid photos!

Prepping for Surgery @ Far Hills

Can't afford Med School?  Come to International Ivy at Far Hills instead.  This week our pre-med students are learning the basics.  They started by learning about the brain and the function of its' lobes.  The students had to opportunity to dissect a real brain to examine it.  Don't worry, even though they looked delicious no one ate a brain.

The next day, our future doctors learned about blood typing.  In a simulation they saved people's lives by giving them the correct type of blood during surgery.  They even had the opportunity to make their own fake blood using materials from your kitchen.  It was so convincing that Dracula would have fallen for it.

Later in the day, the pre-med students learned proper stitching techniques and were able to help a poor banana that was having a bad day.

I know I feel safer knowing in the room next to the office we have 3 great doctors in training.  Check out our flickr page here and our youtube page here on Friday afternoon to see all of our pictures of our future surgeons.
