Hard Work Pays Off at Scotch Plains Week 2

Everyone knows summer break is a time for fun with friends.  Here at Scotch Plains our campers have been doing just that.  Wet Day and Halloween in July were both a blast!  More importantly, our campers have been working hard in all of their classes this week.  Who says learning can't be fun too?!

This morning, campers in Website Design presented their creations to everyone at camp.  Some made sites about nature while others were about video games.  They wrote code to design their websites and told the other class about the process.  Check out the pictures and videos below to see the amazing websites our campers made this week!

What an informative site about ocean pollution!

This site was about all of the different categories of video games!

You can learn all about nature and life by visiting this website!

In Video Game Creation, campers coded four different games throughout the week.  Today they played each others games and got to take them home on a flashdrive.  Some games were so challenging they even had Jackie and Julia stumped!  The pictures and videos below show just a few of the many games our campers made this week.  So cool!

They are hard at work playing the video games they created this week!

Week 2 @ Oakland :-p

Good afternoon, and welcome back to International Ivy Oakland.  This week we had a fantastic group of boys and girls learning Robotics, Java Programming in Minecraft, and Detective/Spy Lab.  Here are some pictures and videos of all the coolness that is International Ivy Oakland.

Breaks and Special Events:
This week we had many special events going on.  Wet Day as always was on Wednesday, and Thursday was Halloween.  Here are some awesome pictures from those days and other crazy shenanigans.  Want to see more?  Check out this link to our youtube page.Breaks and Games
Here Lainey and Giorgi are getting to know each other better during one of our ice breaker games on Monday.

Robotics (Animals and Vehicles):
Below are a lot of pictures.  Want to see more, and even some videos?  Click on the youtube link here.Robots
We got to start with basics.  Brothers Evan and Sean just completed there first robot with Instructor Steve's help.

Here Billy shows up his final product.  This robot moves like a caterpillar or worm.  Who wouldn't want to build one of those?

Here Katherine is smiling as she continues building her spider robot.  And trust me, this was too cool to even think about stepping on.

 Java Programming with Minecraft:
Plenty was going on in Minecraft this week.  Below are a few highlights, and we do have more.  Click on this link to youtube to see what we mean.Java
Here Instructor Mike is going over some fundamentals with Java.  The students are absorbing all the information in so they can start designing some awesome items and game-play.  Notice below the cooperation between campers as they help troubleshoot for each other.

Detective/ Spy Lab:
This week we had a great teacher in Mr. T showing our campers the in's and out's of Criminal Investigation 101.  Below are a few key pictures, but do not worry many more pictures and video clips can be found by clicking this youtube link.  Spy

Here our instructor Mr. T., is showing Evan different tire tracks that can be left by different cars.  This is an important skill to learn to become a detective.

Above and below our are Detectives Giorgi and Emily.  Here they walked in on a crime scene in a home.  Notice how the CAUTION tape tells us to stay back, an investigation is at hand.

Here Giorgi and Emily are trying to break open a lock.  They will eventually use this lock to protect their safes.

Far Hills Week 2 Highlights

Ashwath spent the morning in Youngster Left Brain Mix where he built a bunch of robots and read some really cool stories.

Campers crowded the refill station during wet day before they soaked their friends and counselors.

Even though Dylan didn't want to participate in Wet Day, he exercised his creativity by photographing the event.

For Halloween in July, we had two lovely Elsas and a saucy salsa dancer.
Thomas was a brave knight for Halloween in July, protecting our camp from any and all dragons!

The Youngster class packed the sofa while they watched the sewing class give their presentations.

From Wet Day to Winners
Somerset Week 2 2015

Our first week here at Somerset was so much fun! On wet day everyone got our counselor Andrew with water shooters! He was such a good sport but their was no escaping our campers!

Halloween came a little early this year and our campers took on the challenge! We had zoo keepers, astronauts, and even an Incredible Hulk!

During class time, Film-Making shot a commercial that starred not only the students but guest appearances by Andrew and Nicole! It was a great time taking direction from our campers! In Robotics the campers loved to race their animals and vehicles into the Main Office here at Somerset. It was always a good laugh when robots would show up in different rooms.  We ended our first week here with a Trivia Bowl and the opening of our Treasure Chest. Wow, are our campers smart! It was a close game but the Robotics team edged out the Movie-Makers by one point. We can't wait for next week!

Short Hills Week 2 - Musical Review

For our last day of the week a couple of our musically inclined campers performed during snack time. The entire camp enjoyed the performance before heading outside for relay races. Please see the musical review below.

Caldwell Week 2 Reflections

The campers at Caldwell had such a great time this week! This week, campers participated in events such as Minute-to-win-it, Halloween in July, Wet Day, and Trivia Bowl. Campers came dressed as ninjas, dogs, disco dancers, "Harold and the Purple and Crayon", and a cheerleader. On wet day campers played a game of water balloon toss which was quite a nail biter! Our campers had a wonderful time in class engaging with other students, learning new techniques and information, and participating in hands-on activities.
 Halloween group photo.
We had some pets visit on Halloween.
We also had a ninja come to protect us from the thunderstorms that were supposed to come.
Advanced Minecraft campers have a blast learning from their teacher, Omar, and interacting with each other in their own worlds.
Leanna, Jaimee, and Lilly hold down the fort at the Caldwell location.

Everyone representing International Ivy this Friday!
Trivia Bowl: How long can a cockroach live without its head?
What was the name of Ariel's lobster friend in "The Little Mermaid?"
What state is the only state with one syllable?

We can't wait to see what week 3 has in store for us at Caldwell! Have a great weekend!
