Caldwell Break Time Activities Week 5

This week at Caldwell, the campers had a blast at break time. One of their favorite activities was building structures with marshmallows and tooth picks. Who would've thought that you could build things with such interesting and unique materials? Students planned how to build their structures and some even noted the importance of using triangles in the design of their structure because of their strength. In addition, campers got the chance to bond and work with other campers who they just met on the first day!

Wet day was a blast for our campers this week. We had water balloon tosses and water squirter battles! Here at Caldwell, we cannot wait to see what next week has in store for rout awesome campers.

International Ivy Oakland Week 5 B - )

Hello, and welcome back to International Ivy Oakland.  The sun was shining nice and bright on us this week.  We had a good mix of returning friends, and brand new faces joining us for their first time.  We had some amazing campers in amazing classes such as Animation Movie Making, Film Making, 3D Game Creation, and Anatomy and Surgical Techniques.  Below are little summaries of what has been going on, links to youtube, and lastly check out all the pictures from this week here.

Animation and Film Making
This week the set was hot and the cameras were rolling.  In the morning, our amateur film directors and story writers produced some fantastic stop motion films.  I can't wait for them to go viral or appear at an independent film festival.  The published film will be sent to parents when completed, but we have some videos for you to see here.  In the afternoon, we had 2 campers really take their imaginations from their minds to the set.  The boys designed their own film titled "Clique Spy Movie: The Movie". I think it is obvious that it is an epic undertaking which will promise non-stop laughs and excitement.  The critics give it 2 thumbs up.  Also, check out the flickr link above to see all the pictures of the action for both the morning and afternoon class.

3D Game Creation
This week was all about learning what goes into making the top games of today.
The students each got the opportunity to create their very own map for a game. The maps looked amazing and I can't wait to see what they create in the future. Click here if you want to see more of the action and you can also see more at the flickr link above.

Anatomy & Surgical Techniques
This week we had such a great group of students in our anatomy class. Every was excited to learn about anatomy, and we even had two students come all the way from California to take the class. During the week, the students got to play doctor and dissect a frog and a sheep's brain. They also got to learn about sutures and sew a banana back together. Click here to see more of our future doctors in action and also check our flickr link above too.

Chatham - End of the Week Wrap-Up

This week at Chatham we had our largest group of campers, but we had so much fun and got so many things done.  One of the best parts of the week was our Friday Lemonade Stand from our Entrepreneurship class.  All of our campers participated in the buying of lemonade, which gave the class a lot of profit and proved helpful for learning how the marketing of a product leads to higher sales.  Please click here to see an animoto slide show of all of the pictures from their sale!

We really emphasized the different parts of STEAM this week - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.  From computer programming to Singapore math and cake design we saw many of our campers enjoy interests that they are not usually able to focus on outside of camp. Here is a link to our flickr album for week 5 which showcases snapshots from all of our classes and break time activities.  Stay tuned for week 6 posts starting Monday!

Let's Hear it From the Kids! Edison - Week 5

This week at Edison, the students taking the Reading & Study Skills class and the Creative Writing Workshop have been working extremely hard to brush up on their reading and writing skills before school begins in the fall. We asked a few campers to share with us their experience at International Ivy this week. The campers have a lot of good things to say, so be sure to check them out below!

"This week I learned about different study skills and how to categorize different subjects like making an outline, a graphic organizer, and using a cause and effect sheet. I thought it was really fun to use the graphic organizer and surveying passages. The passages we read explained a lot of information that I didn't even know! I thought it was fun and I hope I can take it again soon :)."

"I'm in the Creative Writing class. It was so much fun!! We also played different games. International Ivy is the best camp ever!"

"In Creative Writing, my favorite part was writing the silly sonnets."

"This year, I learned about silly sonnets. They are little silly poems and I enjoy reading and writing them."

"Creative writing was very fun since we go to write silly sonnets and act it out."

"This was my first week here and I had a good time every day."

Campers eagerly participated in Crazy Hair Day on Thursday!

Sparta Week 5

This Friday wraps up our time here in Sparta :(. We are sad it is over but this week has been so much fun. Campers in Website Design have been working hard on their sites. We have a Ferrari site, an Ice Skating site, and a "Fallout" site. Campers are preparing to publish and share their websites others to the, and their presentations will be on our Youtube page! There you can also watch videos from earlier in the week. Campers in the Java class are also up on Youtube explaining what they were doing and creating. They are finishing up their own Java game today, you can hear about each idea on Youtube! Also, check out our Flickr to see pictures from the week including Wet Day!

Java Programming class (minus one) love posing when they see the camera
Website Design says "Peace Out" to Week 5!
We even celebrated a birthday today with yummy cupcakes!

Campers Share Their Experiences at Scotch Plains Week 5

We can't believe the end of the week is already upon us!  Color Wars has fostered some friendly competition and today we will find out which team earned the most points.  Yesterday, campers participated in a trivia challenge with their teammates.  They wore their team color as well.  Today we will be competing in lip sync battles for the remainder of the Color Wars points.  Stay tuned for some funny videos of our campers belting it out!

The green team is so silly!

Like most Fridays, campers are preparing for final presentations.  Campers in Investment Literacy and the Stock Market Game will present their portfolios to the rest of the class today.  Which team has the most equity overall?  Check out our YouTube page later this afternoon for footage of the presentations to find out.

Our campers have had a fantastic week in their classes and even shared some of their experience with us.  On her Robotics Level 1 Animals class, one camper said "it'll help me one day because it will help me become an engineer!"  Another said "I liked working as a team (in Robotics Level 1 Animals) because my teammates were nice and knew how to build the robots."  Safe to say, our campers are enjoying their time at International Ivy and Scotch Plains.  We love hearing what they have to say and seeing their smiling faces too!

Nice dolphin!
