Perfecting their Performances - Somerset Week 3

Students in Acting for the Stage and Public Speaking have been working hard this week trying to perfect their stage appearance. On Friday, both classes will be presenting in front of an audience to demonstrate the skills they have learned. Take a sneak peak into their classes. We are so excited to see their performances on Friday!

The actors working on an acting exercise.

Public Speaking rehearsing their speeches.

Such a fun week 3 over at Livingston!

Campers are enjoying the giant Connect 4 game thats new this week! During breaks they compete in tournaments and love earning Ivy points when their team wins!

Also when campers want a more relaxing break, they all huddle around and start their very intense game of Uno!

While the campers do enjoy their break time, they are also having loads of fun in their classes! The Crazy Chemworks kids could not stop showing off the slime they had made, and the Creative Needle Arts students now have comfy pillow that they stitched up themselves!
Campers are so excited to trade in their Ivy points for a new toy out of the Treasure Chest at the end of the week!

Website Design at Lincroft

This morning, two campers from Website Design got a chance to present their very own websites to their friends in Robotics. After working hard all week to create their own original sites, campers TJ and Mala each had the opportunity to show off a personalized page dedicated to whatever they are most passionate about.

TJ's site showcased his love of gaming, including the story of how he first became interested in video games, a long list of Roblox cheat codes (Roblox is his ultimate favorite game!), and descriptions of his favorite classic games.

Mala's site focused on her passion for baking and a book of recipes, Nerdy Nummies, written by her favorite YouTube star, Rosanna Pansino. Everyone in the audience was drooling as Mala shared one of Rosanna's most recent recipes: a homemade Pokemon waffle cone!

We are so proud of Mala and TJ and can't wait to see their classmate Roland present his baseball-themed site tomorrow!

Oakland's Big Ol' Week 3 Jubilee

A peek into Oakland's campus this week shows great classes with engaged students all the way through. This week, students are learning to be app developers of the future in Mobile App Design, and becoming the rising stars in our Film-Making class. The campus is aglow with the radiating energy of the campers, and we can't wait for more going forward!

Mobile App Design students are building the games of the future by recreating the games of the past. Students start to get used to the program by building games like breakout and Angry Birds and then building on those ideas to construct new games. The class talks about their ideas and helps each other design their game. Maybe one day we'll see these games on the App Store!

These two campers try and find a subject for their games.

Playtesting is a long and arduous process.

Stop Action Animation has campers learning how to make stop motion films using methods also used by the professionals. This class focuses on creativity and working in groups to make films and animations together. A large variety of animations have been made this week, from car chases to shark attacks, and the campers are loving every second of it,

A group of campers discusses creative direction while piecing together their diorama.

These campers work together to make a Super Mario Brothers inspired adventure. Spoiler Alert: The princess is in another castle.

Website Design has campers working with the wordpress tool to create their own websites and critiquing each others. A camper can make a website about anything that they find interesting. This week, we've got websites about gardening, super mario, and so much more!

"How long does my about the author bio have to be again?"
"...And now for today's obscure Mario fact!"

The loudest class this week has definitely been Film-Making. 8 campers are making a film together and taking turns being the director, the actor, the person that holds the cool little sign thing, and many other different roles. The film they've made is gripping, emotional, and important to society as a whole. Can't wait till the day that Academy comes knocking.

"QUIET ON SET! FILMING IN 3,2,1..."
He mistakenly thought that my camera was the one filming.
Tripod, or freeze ray?

As the week goes on, the film will be finished, the games will be played, and the sites will be presented. We're looking forward to finishing off a great week in Oakland!

We love onesies!

Campers and counselors from Short Hills getting into the pajama day spirit with these crazy and fun pjs! We were astounded with the amount of students who participated today and the campers loved seeing so many counselors in funny onesies!
