Oakland's Big Ol' Week 3 Jubilee

A peek into Oakland's campus this week shows great classes with engaged students all the way through. This week, students are learning to be app developers of the future in Mobile App Design, and becoming the rising stars in our Film-Making class. The campus is aglow with the radiating energy of the campers, and we can't wait for more going forward!

Mobile App Design students are building the games of the future by recreating the games of the past. Students start to get used to the program by building games like breakout and Angry Birds and then building on those ideas to construct new games. The class talks about their ideas and helps each other design their game. Maybe one day we'll see these games on the App Store!

These two campers try and find a subject for their games.

Playtesting is a long and arduous process.

Stop Action Animation has campers learning how to make stop motion films using methods also used by the professionals. This class focuses on creativity and working in groups to make films and animations together. A large variety of animations have been made this week, from car chases to shark attacks, and the campers are loving every second of it,

A group of campers discusses creative direction while piecing together their diorama.

These campers work together to make a Super Mario Brothers inspired adventure. Spoiler Alert: The princess is in another castle.

Website Design has campers working with the wordpress tool to create their own websites and critiquing each others. A camper can make a website about anything that they find interesting. This week, we've got websites about gardening, super mario, and so much more!

"How long does my about the author bio have to be again?"
"...And now for today's obscure Mario fact!"

The loudest class this week has definitely been Film-Making. 8 campers are making a film together and taking turns being the director, the actor, the person that holds the cool little sign thing, and many other different roles. The film they've made is gripping, emotional, and important to society as a whole. Can't wait till the day that Academy comes knocking.

"QUIET ON SET! FILMING IN 3,2,1..."
He mistakenly thought that my camera was the one filming.
Tripod, or freeze ray?

As the week goes on, the film will be finished, the games will be played, and the sites will be presented. We're looking forward to finishing off a great week in Oakland!
