Edison Mobile App Designers Share their Experiences

"In camp I learned how to create a mobile app game. I learned how to publish it on the internet. The game I learned was pong and I realized how important it is to do exactly what the tutorial says or the game could be messed up. I think it was a great experience."

"This was an awesome class because the teachers were very nice and we had great activities. I met very, very nice friends."

"The class I attended was the mobile app design program. Throughout the duration of the camp, my group created the game pong with a tutorial. This tutorial explained to us how different "programming phrases" change a game in a different way. We even began modifying or creating a new game. In my case, I modified the game pong. I chose to change the shapes of the paddles to make the game more interesting. I also added obstacles in the game so the ball ricochets off them, making the game harder. In the middle of the time at camp, we would have break for thirty minutes to do certain activities. For example, we had water day where we did water-related things, which was very enjoyable."

Caldwell Week 2 -Student Blog

"I had a lot of fun in Photoshop. We got lots of ivy points for doing a good job and helping others. I also loved learning how to do everything on Photoshop. Joe gave us fun projects. None of the projects were too hard or too easy and we made what we liked. I think the collages were the best part of the class." -E.S.

"This week I had a GREAT experience. The teacher was patient and helpful. I had a good time playing Minecraft with my new friends. I improved my Minecraft and math skills, all while having fun! Thanks International Ivy." -N.L

"This week I am taking Photoshop. I learned about different tools and how to use it. We also made different projects. I had a fun time. It was very interesting!" -A.V.

"This week I learned many things. I learned that dry ice is not frozen water. Dry ice is made out of carbon dioxide and when you put the dry ice in hot water, it makes fog. That's what they use in spooky movies. I am so exited to come back next year." - R.P.

"This week in Mad Science, I learned how light works. On Wednesday we learned about chemical reactions. We learned about the pH scale and about the indicators used to determine the pH of a solution. 1 is the most acidic, 14 is the most basic, and 7 is neutral. On Friday we will make slime. Wednesday was water day and I got wet from the dunk tank. I'm happy that I did all of these fun and cool things at International Ivy."-J.C.

"Brain Training was challenging but rewarding. We played memory games such as Ooga Booga, Dixit and Spot It to help us with our memories. We played many other games to help our brains make connections quicker. My favorite brain exercise was Name the President." -J.S.

"When it comes to Photoshop, there are many complications. In order to use this program you need to learn how to use each function. My teacher taught me how to properly use the program. We made a collage of our interests. We made our own logo. Our last assignment was a project of our choice; I turned Vladimir into a zombie." -G.P

"I took a cake designing class. I learned so much in one week. I learned how to ice a cake and how to do borders on cakes. I made a rose, too. I even learned how to make butter cream. It was so much fun."
-A.G.

"This week at International Ivy Summer camp I did cake decorating. We did so many thrilling things, such as: working with fondant, making icing, and learning how to apply the icing using many different tips and applications! When we worked with fondant, we had to keep it stiff and thick so it didn't fall apart. Another thing we did was make icing. We made was butter cream icing and it was delicious! Also we learned a lot of tips and tricks for icing a cake. My favorite thing we did during this fun week was decorating mini cakes with fondant, icing, sprinkles, and more! International Ivy summer camp is so much fun!" -C.L.

"My time at International Ivy was great! Minecraft Math was cool. We virtually traveled to new places in Minecraft. It was exciting to explore new worlds, all while doing math. The teacher spawned extra creepers, ghosts, zombie pig-men,blazes, witches, and skeletons to add to the difficulty, but it was fun. I had a great time!" -N.H.

"I learned a lot in Brain Training. I really liked brain cards because they made learning fun and easy. I enjoyed this class. I really liked playing all the different games that exercised my brain. I was glad I made friends in that class." -S.A.

"I like this camp a lot. The staff was friendly and the teachers were terrific. I love coming everyday to learn new and interesting things. I like the tricks that I learned in magic class because I was able to amaze my babysitter and friends. -A.C.

"We learned lots of fun tricks in magic class. My favorite trick to do is pull a rubber band through my thumb. Bill taught us many tricks. Some were hard and some were easy to learn. I liked how he showed us the trick first so that we had a feel for the trick and then he taught us step-by-step all of the moves so that we could successfully pull off the illusions. We worked hard throughout the week on this trick called paper balls to box. The week was so much fun! I can't wait to amaze my friends and family with all of the tricks that I learned!" -A.V.
