Minute-to-Win-it & Fun Classes - Caldwell Week 4

Week 4 at Caldwell is super exciting because of our cool classes like Fan Fiction, Video Game Creation 2D, and Fashion & Sewing as well as our returning classes like Java Programming, and Robotics Animals. Our fun and energetic returning students are the ones who make our camp successful and worth while. Our new students are the ones who bring a new dynamic to our already seasoned campers.
Take a look at our campers enjoying Minute-to-Win-it games and their classes:

PM Robotics Animals is having a blast!
Fan Fiction class is engrossed in a story
that is being told by their teacher!

Fashion & Sewing is off to a great start.
Someone's excited!
She is so focused on her garment.

Java Programming class requires a lot
of tedious work and that is why teamwork
is important in this class.

Week 4 at Summit!

It's our second week of camp here at Summit! We're off to a great start and we have so many awesome kids and classes. With this being our biggest week yet for classes, we're excited to see so many kids learning and making new friends! Our campers are loving Fencing Clinic for Beginners, Eureka! The Inventors' Camp, and Robotics Level 1: Vehicles.

En guard! Our campers are improving their fencing skills every day!

BEEP BEEP!! Builders coming through!

OH NO!!! Our Inventors were stranded on Volcano Island this week! Their fearless leader and teacher, Nick had his crew build shelters and boats to help them survive after their shipwreck.
Looking forward to all of the fun and learning we have in store for the rest of the week! Wet Wednesday is tomorrow and I have a feeling these campers are going to make a huge splash!

Week 4 is Full of Team Work!

This is our biggest week at Chatham so far!  We have almost 60 kids in the morning and more than 30 in the afternoon, but everyone is doing an incredible job in class and at break time.

This afternoon our campers have really come together to finish their Tuesday projects in our WeDo, Pre-Law, Engineering of Ice Cream and Minecraft Classes.

We have campers that truly love being here and working hard, and I can't wait to see what happens the rest of the week!

Minecraft Math @ Far Hillz

It's just like the other Minecraft classes, except with math. Huh? Math!? Yes math. Campers play on survival mode with limited resources to build with. In order to get more they must complete math problems made by their teacher. For example, the more math problems a camper does, and completes it showing their work, the more lucky blocks that camper will receive.

Who knew the strenuous hours of math class and Minecraft play could become one?

Will Oakland catch them all in Week 4?

Week 4 has hit at II Oakland, at we're  off to a great start.

Party like it's 1999, Pokemania has hit again, and International Ivy Oakland is no exception. You Kangaskhan't imagine the camper's poke-fever. In response to this recent epidemic, we've begun introducing lunch electives, and having campers choose between multiple different activities to do after they finish eating. One of those electives, watching the original pokemon cartoon, has been quite popular.

This camper anxiously waits to see if Ash will capture Caterpie
These modern players have something to learn from the roots of the franchise.

For those campers that don't wish to watch pokemon, the long-standing Oakland tradition of playing 4 square is alive and well.

I was supposed to be in the 1 box, but felt that capturing this image was more important.

Oakland's classes have also been running swimmingly, as all of the campers are excited and busy.

Anatomy and Surgical Techniques has been cutting open some fun this week, as so far they've been working on virtual surgeries and learning about using a microscope.

Instructor Shakeira goes over the parts of the microscope with these future surgeons.
The class goes over their next assignment to utilize and test their microscope skills

Minecraft Creative: The Engineer in You has campers teaming up to build larger than life structures and towers using teamwork. The kids have built The Sphinx, The Eiffel Tower, The Statue of Liberty, and for some reason, a giant statue of Shrek.

"Guys, I'm pretty sure Shrek doesn't have a totally square head."

Minecraft Advanced challenges campers with advanced Minecraft concepts like redstone circuits and editing their own maps. From the noise and laughter that I've heard, it sounds like the kids are having a blast.

Having a super cool redstone circuit appears to be a way to make friends.
Campers can learn some of Minecraft's more advanced concepts with consistent assistance from their instructor.

Our own Site Director Eric this week is teaching Fan Fiction and The Writing Process. This class utilizes critical thinking skills particularly to add layers of depth to pre-existing narratives. Students challenge themselves by thinking about the universe of Star Wars, but maybe with a brand new character at the helm. Imagine if Ash was part of Team Rocket in Pokemon, or if Luke was actually working for the Dark Side. Imagining a different narrative does wonders for kids that are looking to improve their writing and communication skills. We're looking forward to seeing what our little playwrights come up with.

Eric starts by critiquing writing samples to assess the direction of the class.
This contemplative camper ponders the possibility of Han Solo in the Pokemon Universe.
Acting for the Stage has been working on displaying emotion and using their voice for power. In terms of pictures, let's just say that their performance isn't final yet, and they wish to forego cameras until they've got a perfect run.

In conclusion, Pokemania has no signs of stopping, and the campers are having a great time. Not sure if we'll catch them all by Friday, mostly because it has taken Ash around 15 years.

Looking forward to a great week!

Already week 4?!

We can't believe it's already week 4! We welcomed a bunch of smiling faces here yesterday at Livingston. They were looking forward to meeting their teachers and starting classes such as Graphic Design, Improv Workshop and Chess.

Here is our chess class learning new strategies to improve their game. Can't wait to see their progress and what everyone else learns in their classes this week!

Making our Way! Somerset - Week 4

This is another exciting week at Somerset! We have fantastic classes this week: Graphic Design in the morning, Website Design in the afternoon, and Java 2: Minecraft Mods full day! Can you feel all of the technology in the air?

Tomorrow marks another Wet Day and we are soaking with enthusiasm! Who will get dunked in the dunk tank? Stay tuned to find out. Also, we are gearing up for Halloween in July on Thursday! We cannot wait to see the campers' costumes. We cannot forget about Friday, which is the day students turn in their ivy points to claim a prize from our Treasure Chest!
