Sherry and Kenny: Live From Edison

Hi!

This is Sherry and Kenny, and we are the counselors at Edison! Time has flown by these past five weeks. Edison has been quite busy with students finding their inner entrepreneurial skills in Lemonade Stand, challenging their brains with math problems in Math Olympiad, and perfecting their icing skills in Cake Design. Each week we are impressed by our campers many talents outside of the classroom, whether it be killing it on the soccer field, creating original Halloween costumes, or strategically aiming their water shooters. Edison may only be on a half-day schedule, but we have more than half the fun. Announcing for the first time to the public, we have created the first-ever "International Ivy Quiz Bowl!" Twice this summer, students have tested their knowledge with everything from geography, to world cuisine, to sports. Do you know what hummus is made out of? Do you know where your larynx is? Well, you better find out quickly before campers buzz in their answer! A fan favorite at Edison is gaga. Luckily enough for our campers, we have our very own gaga pit located on the playground. Every Tuesday, students sprint to the pit and battle to be the last person standing in this awesome game of non-stop concentration and coordination. We are saddened that there are only 3 more weeks left, but then we remember, weeks 6 and 7 will be FULL-DAY (hooray!)! We already preparing our crazy hair, special backwards schedule, and mix and match day! Edison is just busy, busy, busy. Well, kickball is only 20 minutes away, so we have go grab the bases.

Far Hill Campers Tell Us What's Up

A few campers wanted to let the rest of the world what's going on in their classes. From what it looks like, Animation Movie Making is the coolest class ever. Look out, Pixar! 

Siya says, "This week I am doing animation movie making. In this activity you get to do stop motion and make short movies. On Monday I used glass pebbles to make a penguin video. It was so funny! Then on Tuesday I drew pictures to make another stop motion video. It was called the random movie, so you can guess it was random. Then yesterday I used play to make a movie called All because of lightning. That one was way better than the Random movie.
And today (and tomorrow) we are making a lego movie, well not exactly. Our movie is called Attic of the Tacos. It is going to be super duper funny."

Gabe says, "I love my classes that I have. I do so much and have so much fun. Each day you do something different like build with legos and clay and make awesome movies. I think this camp did a very good job with keeping all the campers laughing and that is important. I that this camp is the best and always will."

Riya (not to be confused this Siya) says, "This week my classes are animation movie making and Shark Tank Jr. In animation movie making we are doing stop motion animation films. In Shark Tank Jr. I am making a business and a product to sell. I am also advertising. To close, the 2 classes I am taking are AWESOME."  

Wet Day at Chatham!!

Short Hills' Wet Day and Water Balloon Toss!

 Campers in Short Hills had so much fun at Wet Day today! We had water shooters, a dunk tank, and of course some water balloons. We also had a water balloon toss at the end!

Lemonade! Lemonade! Get Your Ice-Cold Lemonade! Edison - Week 4

     At Edison this week, three students are taking Lemonade Stand Entrepreneur! During the week, the students have been quite busy coming up with the perfect lemonade recipe to sell for their potential customers. With the perfect amount of "business smarts" and "top-notch cooking skills," students came up with the best lemonade at International Ivy. The students are eagerly awaiting to sell their lemonade this Friday! Check out all the fun that is going on in Lemonade Stand! 

     "Our class was fun, and we were able to understand businesses and how to attract customers.  We were able to make are own lemonade, taste it, and advertise it.  In addition to the people at International Ivy, we are also hoping that regular passers might buy some too!  50% of our profit will be donated to the Red Cross.  I am really looking forward to Friday, and we all hope that people will buy our lemonade." - Student A

     "It was my favorite class so far, and I will always remember this class as a great experience. We learned a lot such as learning how to attract customers, advertising, and how to make actual lemonade! I hope that we will be able to attract kids in International Ivy as well as strangers. I can't wait for Friday and since we are donating to the Red Cross and I hope we are going to attract plenty of customers!" - Student B
